The Islamic Secondary School for Boys in Nablus Wins the Fourth Annual National Knowledge Competition 

The Islamic Secondary School for Boys in the Nablus Directorate of Education won first place in the fourth annual National Knowledge Competition 2020/2021.  The closing session was held on Tuesday, the 13th of July in Forum  Hall at Yasser Arafat Museum.  In attendance were Yasser Arafat Foundation Board Member Mrs. Intisar Al-Wazir (Um Jihad), Chair of the Yasser Arafat Museum Committee , and Director General of the Yasser Arafat Foundation Dr. Ahmed Soboh, Ministry of Education Director General of Activities Mr. Abdul Hakim Abu Jamous, and representatives of the Foundation, the Education Ministry and families of the participating students.

 

Jinsafut Secondary School for Girls in the Directorate of Education in Qalqilya won second place in the qualifiers, and the Martyr Yazan Al-Halaiqa  Secondary School for Girls in the Directorate of Education in north Hebron ranked third.

 

In his remarks, Dr. Ahmed Soboh emphasized the importance of the competition and its continuity as a means of promoting national knowledge, the Palestinian national identity, and preserving the heritage of the Palestinian national movement and the Palestinian struggle.
Sobh noted that the National Knowledge Competition is among the programs offered by the Foundation for the development of younger generations to carry the flag and complete the march to build  the Palestinian state with its capital, Al-Quds Al-Sharif.  He stressed the importance of national knowledge reaching every Palestinian home.

 

In turn, Abu Jamous highlighted the importance of this national and qualitative competition in terms of its content and objectives, teaching the young generation the national symbols and leaders , the history of the revolution’s leaders and all its outcomes. Describing the competition as an important to develop the Palestinian leaders of the future, he stated, “We count on this generation to preserve the struggle and heritage of the people.”  Abu Jamous extended the appreciation of the Minister of Education for the strong partnership between the Ministry and Yasser Arafat Foundation, and thanked all who contributed to the success of this competition. 

 

In partnership with the Ministry of Education and in cooperation with the Public Authority for Radio and Television, Yasser Arafat Foundation launched this fourth annual national knowledge competition in November 2020 on the same date as the first, second and third competitions, although this year’s program was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

 

The competition focusses on the most important events of the Palestinian cause during nearly a hundred years of conflict. The narrative presented in the Yasser Arafat Museum served as the basis of reference; the participating students visited the museum and studied its website to gain understanding and retention of the information.  The competition aims to increase awareness of the Palestinian cause and enhance the cultural and national identity of the younger Palestinian generations. The target group of the competition are tenth grade students of the homeland.

 

In its first phase, approximately 110,000 students in schools affiliated with the directorates of education in all governorates of the country participated in the competition.  Three students from each of 18 schools were selected for the second phase.  The final phase consisted of eight parts and was held in the Forum  Hall at Yasser Arafat Museum with the qualifiers representing six schools.

 

The ceremony concluded with the announcements of the winners and participants and awarding of prizes to the winning teams.  First place winners were awarded a premium laptop device and US$400, presented to each of the three students from the Islamic Secondary School for Boys.
Second place winners were awarded a high-specification iPad and US$300, presented to each of the three winning students from Jinsafout Secondary School for Girls.

 

Third place winners were awarded a high-specification tablet device and US$200, presented to each of the three winning students from Al-Shaheed Yazan Al-Halaiqa  Secondary School for Girls.

 

The Foundation affirmed its commitment to the continuation of this competition in the coming years.
