Dr. Ahmad Soboh, Chairman of the Board of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, welcomed a delegation from the Political and National Guidance Commission, led by Deputy Commissioner General Brigadier Hassan Shtaywi, at the Foundation’s headquarters in Ramallah on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by the Foundation’s Director General, Dr. Odeh Mashareqa.

Dr. Soboh emphasized that the Yasser Arafat Foundation is committed to preserving the legacy of the founding president, Yasser Arafat, and safeguarding the history of the Palestinian people for future
generations. He outlined the Foundation’s vision, mission, and year-round programs and activities, noting its central role in establishing and managing the Yasser Arafat Museum and mausoleum. “Through our work, we seek to document the history of the Palestinian struggle and tell the story of Yasser Arafat’s life and leadership,” he said.

As the 21st anniversary of Arafat’s passing approaches, Dr. Soboh remarked that commemorations this year will take place under challenging circumstances. “Given the ongoing aggression and blockade, each community will mark the anniversary from its own location. For those who can reach the mausoleum, we will gather there to pay our respects and lay wreaths,” he added.

Dr. Soboh thanked the delegation for their visit and stressed the importance of continued cooperation in serving the Palestinian cause.

Brigadier Shtaywi affirmed that honoring the memory of the late leader Yasser Arafat is an integral part of the Commission’s mission, as it embodies the national and historical consciousness of the Palestinian people and their sacrifices. He expressed the Commission’s pride in its long-standing partnership with the Yasser Arafat Foundation and called for expanding joint educational and awareness programs. He also presented several ideas for marking the 21st anniversary of Arafat’s martyrdom in a manner befitting his stature and enduring national legacy.

At the end of the visit, the delegation received the official poster commemorating the 21st anniversary of President Arafat’s passing, along with a selection of the Foundation’s publications, including documentaries, films on the Foundation’s activities.
